Call for Artwork!

Grant dollars available through application process for Artwork!

metal warming houseThe city-sponsored Public Arts Grant Task Force in Hastings is currently seeking artists to apply for a grant for the latest public arts project. The Task Force is seeking an artist to enhance the exterior of a metal warming house used in Levee Park on the riverfront in downtown Hastings. The warming house, fashioned from a shipping container, is placed near a small skating rink that was designed during Hastings Riverfront Renaissance. It is utilized during the winter months and is highly visible and easily viewed by all who gather to skate, play, or stroll on the Hastings RiverWalk.

Artists will be asked to provide a written description of the proposed artwork, samples of previous work, specifications for installation, and proposed commission price. The artwork will be installed outdoors and is expected to be able to withstand harsh Minnesota weather in all seasons. The task force is currently reaching out to artists across the Midwest, and plans to install the artwork during the coming winter season.

Deadline to submit proposals is 4:30 p.m. on August 14, 2017.
Details and application materials can be found at City of Hastings Public Arts page

This is the second piece of art supported by the City’s Public Arts Grant Task Force. The first piece, a sculpture entitled Nascent, was created specifically for the community utilizing Hastings history and was placed in a public square in the parking lot of Levee Park. The Public Arts Task Force is a seven member group made up of local artists and art enthusiasts and facilitated by Deputy City Clerk, Sarah Hodder. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts. The Task Force is a two-year pilot program formed in 2015 to support art that is free and accessible to the public. $10,000 is currently allocated to this efforts in 2017.
