HPAAC is an all-volunteer organization created in 2008 to promote the growth in the Arts and Culture in the Hastings and Prescott area. Your support allows us to help the many artists, musicians, writers, actors, filmmakers, and others in our community who do so much to enrich our lives. We learned during COVID just how important the Arts are to all of us. We’ve seen many examples of how everyday folks and professional artists alike need to express themselves to others to combat loneliness and depression. Art nurtures the spirit and calms the mind.

We are proud to support many arts related causes in the Hastings -Prescott area. Some examples include art and music Scholarships for students, Tuesday Coffee Concerts, Black Dirt Theatre, Sod House Theatre, Lumin Theatre Lab, Summer SPARK Program, Orange Dragon Art Gallery, Railway Art Gallery, River Valley Band, Building Remembrance for Reconciliation, The Longer Table, Seussical the Musical, Third Coast Percussion Residency, Dallas Brass Band Residency, Maria Bournaki Residency, the Hmong “Seeds for Change” Art Exhibit, and Annual Local Arts Heroes recognitions.

Your contributions make all of these possible!

Sod House Theater Performances

Don’t miss the upcoming production of Arla Mae’s Booyah Wagon!

The purpose of this Sod House production is to bring attention to eating local and local farmers and the importance of food and community.

A little about the show:

Minneapolis. Actress (and friend of Sod House) Sarah Agnew is devising the fall show called Arla Mae Booyah’s Wagon. “It’ll be a very funny family friendly play that will last about an hour and fifteen minutes. We’ve cast the funniest actors in Minneapolis!”

They will be performing in Hastings at the Rotary Pavilion on 4 Sep (6 p.m.) and 5 Sep at 3:30 p.m. For a complete list of tour locations and dates, please visit the Sod Theater website.

The Premise of the Show:

The story is about Arla Mae, a rural Minnesotan, who claims to have the first food truck in history. Arla Mae, an octogenarian, spent years traveling MN and making booyah out of her food truck, and after 25 years of campaigning the museum, she finally receives a letter that states a museum official will come to take a look at the wagon if she is able to dust it off and throw a Booyah. A bit like the set up in Waiting For Guffman. At the height of Arla’s booyah making, most of the ingredients came from cans and there was little to no diversity in greater MN. Now, years later, upon her return she discovers that there is an enormous immigrant culture in greater MN and that the flavors and ingredients have changed. People’s communities and palates have changed and everyone is better for it.

Sod House Theater creates professional theater experiences in close collaboration with Minnesota communities. Through playful and respectful working interaction, we gather and affirm local artists and technicians, illuminate timely and relevant issues, and create an empowering space for public dialogue and reflection.” Read More

HPAAC Art Heroes

Please join members of the community in promoting the arts in Hastings and Prescott by attending HPAAC’s first virtual gala on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 6 p.m.

The Gala will honor the 2020 Art Heroes, who through their tireless efforts have promoted the arts in their respective communities – Dick Graham of Hastings and Carolyn Campfield and John Huth of Prescott. Even though, we won’t be able to spend time (in-person) with them this year, they will be “present” during the virtual gala.

The HPAAC Friends Along the River gala couldn’t be possible without the financial support from our community.

THANK YOU for supporting HPAAC and all the many programs we can provide!

THANK YOU to our Confluence Sponsor – Ruth and George Doffing Charitable Fund; our River Valley Sponsor – Xcel Energy; our; our Mississippi Sponsors – Merchants Bank, Bronwyn Skov, Jackie & Scott Northard; and our many individual sponsors.

Funds raised during the online auction will support Summer Arts Programs for Kids, scholarships and student fees for children and adults who otherwise would not be able to participate in arts programs. Funding will also provide to students studying piano, violin, guitar, and participants in the award- winning Hastings High School Show Choir. It is the hope of HPAAC that the number of people served in 2021 will be doubled through the raising funds at the 2020 Gala.

REGISTRATION IS FREE!

We look forward to having you join us from the comfort of your own home as we celebrate the arts! Join our hosts and emcees this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. for the pre-gala happy hour and programming starts at 6:00 p.m.
