Get to know the featured artists Jean Hume & Cheryl Maplethorpe on Friday, 11 August from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Exhibit Dates:  July 19 –  August 27

Jean Hume, Jewelry Artist

Jean has explored the arts since childhood in Crookston, Minnesota. In the summer of 2000, she and husband, Dave moved from California to Hastings, Minnesota to raise two daughters. During this year, she renewed her interest in art using watercolor and pastel taking lessons in Hastings.

Since 2010, Jean has been creating jewelry, wire and wool art. The work is rustic and organic in nature as she uses natural fibers and objects for the creations. Jean is an active member in several local arts organizations.

Cheryl Maplethorpe, Painter/drawing

Cheryl has had an interest in art since high school but had little time for art until she retired in 2013. Prior to retirement she worked for the Minnesota Office of Higher Education as the Director of State Financial Aid and for Globe University as their Corporate Financial Aid Director.

Since retirement she has been able to spend more time creating art. Cheryl’s only formal art training was high school art classes and a couple of classes from local artists.

She has had art shows at Gallery 120, and Art’s House in River Falls, and the Orange Dragon Gallery in Prescott, WI.

Cheryl enjoys her unique creations and wants her art to encourage viewers to see common situations in new ways.

Artist Reception – Jeff Wilson

You are invited to an artist reception!

potteryJoin artist Jeff Wilson on Friday, August 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Hear about his artistic inspirations and fascinating processes for creating both functional stoneware and decorative raku. Jeff throws his own pieces and uses several finishing methods for his raku, including obvara.

Artist statement:
“I like to create functional stoneware with the occasional dabble into Raku. However there are still the moments where caution goes to the wind and something strange is created. Cone 6 stoneware with electric firing is mostly how things happen in my studio. I create my own glazes for the most part as well (which can lead to some interesting results). Unless otherwise marked, all my glazes are food/microwave/dishwasher safe.”

FREE PROGRAM.

Light refreshments will be provided and the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park educational exhibits will also be available for viewing.
