Meet Local Authors

Meet Local Authors

Welcome Spring with culinary traditions and poetry!

This April, Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center is offering two FREE presentations by local authors.

1. Terese Allen: The Flavor of Wisconsin

April 14th 2:00pm – 3:00pm

To understand the history of a region, you’ve got to follow the food. That’s particularly true in Wisconsin, whose culinary traditions reflect the richness of an ethnically and agriculturally diverse region. In this talk, regional food expert and author Terese Allen shares the stories behind such varied foodways as cream puffs, Hmong egg rolls and the Friday night fish fry. From Ojibwe wild rice to arugula pesto pasta, she tracks the amazing cornucopia of what Wisconsinites have gathered, grown, produced, cooked, and eaten.

Terese will have copies of her books available for purchase and signing at this free event.

2. Su Smallen Love: River Poetry

April 28th 1:00pm – 2:00pm

“We are excited to host local poet Su Love as she reads poems on the theme of rivers and watersheds, selected from her six books! This free event is a great opportunity to connect with a local author and to our local watersheds through the art of poetry.”

Su’s books of poetry will be available for purchase and signing at this event.
