HPAAC Writers’ Group Meeting – May

Don’t miss the last meeting of this season!

Do you need writing inspiration? Meet up with fellow writers via Zoom!

The Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council’s (HPAAC) writers’ group will meet on Tuesday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be conducted via Zoom. If you would like to participate, please send an email to Mike Kelly at mdpkelly@icloud.com for the meeting’s link and agenda.

The HPAAC writers group usually meets monthly from September to May on the 1st Tuesday from 6:30-8:15 p.m.

Prepare some writing or be ready to discuss what you have been reading, or something you would like to share. The group is looking forward to “seeing you” and discussing writing once again!

You need not be an experienced writer or a professional to attend. All are welcome.

Writers are encouraged to bring reading suggestions, share their writing, and discuss the issues or joys they have encountered while writing. Classes are structured into segments which could include:

  • Introductions and catching up
  • News for writers
  • Writing from a prompt provided by the host
  • Sharing what they have written (only if participants wish to do so)

Zoom Virtual Events

The Dakota MN County library is offering a series of Virtual Events on Tuesdays from 2 to 3:45 p.m. during the month of February.

Tuesday, Feb. 2: Stories in Song Register now.

Enjoy a lively, music-filled workshop. Join us for old songs, singing along, and creating a new song together with the group. Presented by COMPAS Teaching Artist Ann Reed.

Tuesday, Feb. 9: Enjoying Memories with Writing Register now through Feb. 2.

Join us for guided exercises designed to help spark your memories and breathe life into your own story writing. A kit with materials needed for the workshop will be mailed to you prior to the event. This program is limited to attendees with MN addresses. Presented by COMPAS Teaching Artist May Lee-Yang.

Tuesday, Feb. 16: Flower Collage Register now through Feb. 2.

Create your own flower collage art using a variety of materials, shapes and textures. A kit with materials needed for the workshop will be mailed to you prior to the event. This program is limited to attendees with Minnesota addresses. Presented by COMPAS Teaching Artist Teresa Cox.

Tuesday, Feb. 23: Seed Art Register now through Feb. 9.

Draw or transfer an image that symbolizes a special moment that you want to remember and use seeds and beans of different colors and sizes to make it into a vibrant mosaic. A kit with materials needed for the workshop will be mailed to you prior to the event. This program is limited to attendees with MN addresses. Presented by COMPAS Teaching Artist Anne McFaul Reid.

HPAAC Writer’s Group – October

Facilitated by Diane Saed, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council’s (HPAAC) writers’ group usually meets monthly, 1st Tuesdays, 6:30-8:15. This month the meeting will be on Tuesday, October 10 at BreakAway Café.

Bring your writing, or be ready to discuss what you have been reading, or something you would like to share.  Feel free to invite a guest. Looking forward to seeing you all once again!  This is our 6th year!!!

Writer’s Group – September

Calling all writers!

You don’t need to be an experienced writer; you just need the desire to write and hone your skills.

Facilitated by Diane Saed, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council (HPAAC) writers group usually meets from 6:30 to 8:15 pm on the first Tuesday of each month. This is our sixth year!

This month, the group will meet on Tuesday, 12 September at BreakAway Arts at 6:30 p.m.

Writers are encouraged to bring reading suggestions, share their writing and discuss the positives and negatives they have encountered with writing. Each session is loosely structured into three segments: discussing what participants have read and recommend; writing from a prompt, critiquing previous writing, or a brief writing lesson, and sharing of personal writing or writing of others.

Fun & Games with Black Dirt Theater

Have fun in the park with Black Dirt Theater/Katie Rowles-Perich!

Join Black Dirt Theater Actor educator Katie Rowles-Perich this summer for creative theater fun!

Play theater games, learn improv, and invent with puppets.

The SPARK program is underway and children have the opportunity to learn theater from a professional teacher.

Library – Art related programs & contests

Here is a quick list of art classes and programs offered to you!

The Pleasant Hill Library in Hastings is offering:

Sumi-e painting – Japanese brush painting on July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Felt phone cases – making of cases on July 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. This class is meant for parent/child, or grandparent/child or some multigenerational mixture!!

For registration for that, if you and the child are each going to make a case, you both need to sign up but if you are going to work on one together, only one needs to sign up. To register visit Pleasant Hill Library

One more program for everyone in July is the Apollo to the Moon program on July 19 from 6:30 to 7:30. This program would be appropriate for adults and kids. This will be power point and exhibits and a presentation on the space program and especially on the Apollo missions. Rob Ellos is a retired teacher and he now travels around giving presentations on some of the things he most enjoyed teaching. He is great to listen to and very engaging for the kids.
