Meet Author Margaret Hasse

Author Margaret Hasse is coming to Hastings, Tuesday, December 6, 6:30-8:15 at LeDuc Historic Estate.
margaret-hasseShe is being sponsored by Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council (HPAAC).
The HPAAC Writers Group welcomes all interested writers or want-to-be-writers free of charge.

Please feel free to join us as Margaret discusses her work, reads selections, and answers questions on writing. Books will be available for purchase.

Margaret Hasse began writing poems when she was a child in South Dakota. She went on to study literature at Stanford University (B.A.) and the University of Minnesota (M.A.).

Hasse is the author of five collections of poetry, including two finalists for the Minnesota Book Award, and Milk and Tides, winner of the poetry prize from the Minnesota Independent Publishing Association. She’s a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Minnesota State Arts Board, Jerome Foundation, and The McKnight Foundation. Garrison Keillor has read her poems on “The Writers Almanac” and Ted Kooser has used her poem, “Truant,” in the American Life in Poetry project.

Hasse’s poems have appeared in many journals and in unusual places, such as stamped into the sidewalks of Saint Paul and on bicycle spoke cards.

Hasse’s newest book, Between Us, was released in the fall of 2016.

Poet Jim Moore points out that “the poems in Between Us call out back and forth between the joys that fill our hearts and the griefs that empty them in the way that poetry has done since ancient times:  sometimes in stunned bewilderment, sometimes with blazing assurance.” Margaret Hasse can be reached at www.margarethasse.com

Questions regarding Margaret’s appearance and program may also be addressed to Diane Saed, who facilitates the HPAAC Writers. Phone number 651-437-7192.
