“Make Music Day” is a celebration of music around the world. Soloists and bands will perform at local parks throughout the day.

Fourteen hours, ten bands, 5 parks, 0 dollars. It’s Make Music Day, a worldwide celebration of music held on the longest day of summer. Come for one band or make a day of it and explore Hastings to see them all. Check the event listing for times and locations.

HPAAC Writers Group – February

Facilitated by Diane Saed, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council’s (HPAAC) writers’ group meets monthly, 1st Tuesdays, 6:30-8:15 at the LeDuc Historic Estate. The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 7th.

Check HPAAC/Literary arts for additional information.

You need not be an experienced writer or a professional to attend.  All are welcome.

Writers are encouraged to bring reading suggestions, share their writing, and discuss the issues or joys they have encountered while writing. Each class is structured into three segments:

  • Sharing of what participants have read and recommend
  • Writing from a prompt provided by Diane
  • Sharing what they have written (only if participants wish to do so)
  • Visiting authors are frequently invited to share their viewpoints on writing, editing,

2016 Pleasant Hill Gingerbread House Contest

You can enter your own creation or come to enjoy the display and vote for your favorites. This friendly competition is free and open to all amateur bakers. You may enter as a team, an individual or family – you choose!

Winners will be announced during the Bells of the Bluffs concert at the Library on December 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Top Minnesota Artists Paint Hastings/Prescott En Plein Air

Discover top local artists!

art by Andy EvansenOn Saturday, October 1, fourteen of the top landscape painters in the state will be painting En Plein Air (in the open air) in Hastings and Prescott from approximately 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

The public is invited to attend a reception to view their completed paintings at Evansen Art Studio from 5 to 6 pm. Some of the artists will be available to discuss their work and answer questions.

These high quality original paintings of the two communities will be available in the auction at the HPAAC Gala on November 4. Artists will set a price on each painting which will serve as an opening bid for the auction. If anyone is interested in purchasing a painting at the flat price set by the artist prior to going on the auction block, the October 1 reception is the only opportunity.
