Making Spirits Bright – Meet & Greet Dale Lewis

Visit the MN Landscape Arboretum & check out Artist Dale Lewis’ sculptures!

Four of Artist Dale Lewis’ sculptures are being featured at the MN Landscape Arboretum’s Making Spirits Bright Lights Festival, November 23, 2018 – January 6, 2019.

Sculptures featured:

  • Bing, the Chinese Dragon which was moved from her summer location in the Chinese Garden at the MN Landscape Arboretum to the front of the Visitor Center.
  • Curler Pete, a sculpture named in honor of Olympic hockey player, Pete Fensen, is placed in the ice pools in front of the Learning Center.
  • Never Stop Pulling, a dog sled team in recognition of the Ididerod Race can be found in front of the Synder Building at the Winter Pond.
  • Cheery Cherry Tree is located at Morgan Terrace and MacMillan Garden.

Event Dates: November 23, 2018 – January 6, 2019

Great Hall Tree Lighting Event:  Thursday, November 29, 2018, 5:00-7:30pm 

Meet Artist Dale Lewis at the November 29th Great Hall Tree Lighting Event.
Light refreshments, music, S’more Village, indoor and outdoor activities. Tree lighting ceremony at 6pm.
Members $10, non-members $20, children 3-15 $5, children 2 and under free.

Lemonade for the Lawnboy: The Musical!

“Lemonade for the Lawnboy: The Musical!” is a new musical written by Greta Grosch and featuring the music of Jimmy Kennedy and Joe Weismann (of “The Smarts”). Based on the real life experiences of Hastings residents Janet Letnes Martin and artist David Cook, “Lemonade for the Lawnboy: The Musical!” explores the magical and often tangled intersection between the genius of art and the self-destruction of addiction.

Rhubarb Festival at the LeDuc Historic Estate

On June 4, 2016 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. the Friends of LeDuc and Historic Hastings will sponsor their Annual Rhubarb Festival.

Rhubarb will reign as the main feature of this event – bunches of fresh rhubarb, potted rhubarb plants and baked rhubarb treats will all be offered for sale. Sharing the stage with rhubarb this year will be herbs. There will be demonstrations on how to use various herbs in salads and cooking and suggestions for which herbs to include in your own garden to provide sanctuary and food for bees and butterflies. A variety of potted herbs will be offered for sale as well. Read More

Original sculptures by Artists Dale Lewis and John Hughes are now in display in Hastings and Prescott.

All artwork for this exhibit was created by regional and national artists. The pedestals are sponsored by local business and groups.

“Trojan Horse” wins the People’s Choice Award

Trojan HorseArtist Dale Lewis received the people’s choice award for the “Trojan Horse” in Eau Claire’s Sculpture Walk. The Horse will be purchased by the program and donated to the city for permanent display.

When Pigs Fly, The Pork Chopper – “The helicopter is a ½ scale Bell model 47. You can see them on Mash reruns. The tail section is a wind mill from my father in-law’s back yard. Just think, when pigs fly, pilots may have 10 nipples!” Artist Dale Lewis

St. Joseph Sculpture Walk Award Winner – Artist Dale Lewis

Congratulations to the 2015-16 St. Joseph Sculpture Walk Award Winners!

Cherry-TreeFirst place went to Dale Lewis, with “Cherry Tree,” second place went to Jamie Burnes with “9 Piece Ring,” and third place went to Alan Detrich with “Mirage.”

Artist statement: Minnesota folk-artist Dale Lewis turns bright silver, cast-off utensils into lovely organic forms. Such a sensitivity to nature and a catchy sense of humor.
