“Monarch Tag and Release”

Mon tag release OD 8-15Orange Dragon Art Gallery:  Sat. Aug. 22, 2015 – 12:00 to 1:00 pm

Come learn about the wonderful monarch butterfly, and the incredible 2500 mile migration they make to Mexico each fall. “We will also talk about butterfly gardens, the importance of milkweed and nectar plants and ways you can help preserve this beautiful little creature that is endangered.”

Tagging will follow a presentation showing examples of various stages of monarch caterpillars and chrysalis. Each tag has an individual code number which can be tracked at the Monarch Watch website to see if the butterflies have been found in Mexico over the winter.  Native plants, beneficial to monarch habitat, will also be available for sale.

Proceeds benefit The Monarch Project, a program designed to educate, advocate and give back to the community. Working with kids, seniors and women’s shelters, the goal is to help preserve and protect monarchs and the endangered migration phenomenon through programs that educate, advocate and provide empowering art therapy projects benefiting those in need.

Amy Miller started raising monarchs on her property along the Trimbelle River, near Ellsworth, WI as a peaceful way to endure some tragic family issues. She has worked with the U of MN Monarch Lab, lectured at numerous businesses in both MN & WI and conducted art workshops around the country through her business Trimbelle River Studio & Design. In 2014 alone, she raised over 750 monarchs.
